Microsoft Security Copilot

In April this year (2024), Microsoft launched the Microsoft Security Copilot worldwide. This solution is designed to enhance the skills of security and IT professionals in organizations, helping them identify, respond to, and act more quickly against cyber threats.
 

What is Microsoft Copilot for Security?

Copilot for Security is a cybersecurity product with Artificial Intelligence (AI) that enables security professionals to respond quickly to cyber threats, process signals at machine speed, and assess risk exposure in minutes. 

It is the only security AI product that combines a specialized language model with Microsoft's specific security capabilities. These capabilities incorporate a growing set of security-specific skills informed by exclusive global threat intelligence and over 65 billion daily signals.
 

Copilot for Security Features

• Custom Promptbooks: Customers can create and save their series of natural language prompts for common security workstreams and tasks.
• Knowledgebase Integrations (in preview): Enable the integration of Copilot for security into business logic and the performance of activities based on their step-by-step guides.
• Multilingual Support: Allows Copilot to process prompts and respond in 8 languages with a multilingual interface for 25 languages.
• Third-Party Inclusions: From global partners actively developing integrations and services.
• External Attack Surface Connection: From Defender EASM to identify and analyze updated information on the organization's external attack surface risks.
• Audit and Diagnostic Logs: Microsoft Entra provides additional insights for security investigations or IT problem analysis from audit logs related to a specific user or event, summarized in natural language.
• Usage Reports: Provide dashboard insights on how teams use Copilot, enabling further optimization opportunities.

Microsoft is also launching a pay-as-you-go licensing model that makes Copilot for Security accessible to more organizations than any other solution on the market. With this flexible, usage-based pricing model, organizations can scale their usage and costs according to their needs and budget.
 

Investigate, protect, and manage AI usage

As more generative AI services are launched in the market for all business functions, it is crucial to recognize that, in addition to new opportunities, they also introduce new challenges and risks. With this in mind, Microsoft provides its customers with greater visibility, protection, and governance over their AI applications, whether they are using Microsoft Copilot or third-party generative AI applications. To help organizations protect and manage the use of Artificial Intelligence, Microsoft offers the following experiences in its product portfolio:

• Security teams can discover potential risks associated with AI usage, such as sensitive data leaks and users accessing high-risk applications.
• Security and IT teams can protect AI applications in use and the sensitive data being analyzed or generated by them, including prompts and responses.
• Security teams can control the use of AI applications, retain and log interactions with AI applications, detect any violations of regulatory or organizational policies when using these applications, and investigate any new incidents.

 

How Copilot works

This diagram provides a simplified presentation of what happens in the background in Copilot for Security when you submit a request. First, Copilot determines the context and creates the plan with the available skills in Copilot. Then, it executes the plan and gathers all necessary content and data. Next, it combines this data and context, formats the data, works on a response, and delivers that response. This process can occur in just a few seconds.

The only prerequisite for Copilot for Security is having an Azure account. However, it is recommended that organizations connect their Microsoft Security tools and integrate them with other security tools to get the best experience and make the most of Copilot.
